CloseGod commands us to honor our parents. When we're under their authority, we obey them unless what they tell us to do clearly and directly violates God's rules. When we're no longer under their authority (i.e., neither emotionally nor financially dependent upon them), we're free to ignore their advice as long as we do so in an honorable way. We may need to cut ourselves off from wicked parents completely to protect us or others. Loving our parents well is not always easy or obvious, but it matters to God.
